Why We Are Special

Four key characteristics define the essence of a Boys & Girls Club. All are critical in having a positive impact on the life of a child:

1. Dedicated Youth Facility
The Boys & Girls Clubs are places designed for youth programs and activities. There are 111 Boys & Girls Club units in 47 Virginia cities and counties.

2. Open Daily
Clubs are open daily after school when kids have free time and need positive, productive outlets. An active club member may spend more time at the club than in school, where he or she is mentored, tutored and can participate in a wide variety of activities.

3. Professional Staff
Every club has full-time trained youth development professionals, augmented by trained part-time staff, who are positive role models and mentors to youth members.  Volunteers provide additional support.

4. Available and affordable to all youth
The clubs are here for those who need us most, no matter their financial circumstance.  Many of our clubs operate in communities where there are no other after-school programs.  Dues are low, averaging $20 per year, and no one is turned away from membership.
